Monkey

A dog called Monkey reading A Dog Called Grk... This was sent to me by Judi James, who I met at the Booked Up party last year. Monkey belongs to her daughter. As you can see, he's a great Grk fan.

Bearkeeper

My new book, Bearkeeper, will be published in the UK on 7 April 2007. It's an exciting story about a boy and a bear in London in 1601. Over the next few weeks, I'm going to put some more material about the book on this website. For now, here is the cover:

Grk & the government

This autumn, as part of a scheme called Booked Up, every British eleven year-old will be able to pick a free book from a list of twelve - one of which is A Dog Called Grk.

G
rk and the Hot Dog Trail is on a list of books recommended by the education secretary, Alan Johnson, and librarians from the School Library Association. Every state secondary school in England will be able to choose 20 of the titles in order to set up a dedicated "boys' bookshelf" in the library. You can read the full list here.

Grk site

There's a new site devoted to Grk and hosted by Andersen Press: http://wwww.grkbooks.com. On the site, as well as information about Grk, there's a competition to win an ipod and signed copies of the next book.

Prizes

Grk and the Hot Dog Trail has been nominated for the Fantastic Book Awards, which are run by Lancashire Schools Library Service.

Grk and the Pelotti Gang has been picked by Red House as one of their Picks of the Year for 2006 - their choice of the year's fifty best children's books. A Dog Called Grk was a Red House Pick of the Year for 2005.

Operation Tortoise

Grk: Operation Tortoise has been getting some great reviews.
In
The Times, Amanda Craig picked it as one of her "best summer reads", writing "My favourite adventure for younger readers is the new Joshua Doder, Grk: Operation Tortoise. His hero Tim is on holiday in the Seychelles and a boy and his dog are all that can prevent the extinction of a species. The humour, narrative voice and absence of magic stuff are a delight."

There's also a five-star review in the latest edition of
Books for Keeps and it has been chosen by the Daily Telegraph for their Family Book Club. If you follow the link, you'll find an interview with Joshua Doder and Trudie Styler and some notes on the book.

There's an excellent review on the
Write Away site which concludes "This is a novel (and series) which is sure to be popular and certainly deserves to be read."

Grk in India

The fifth Grk book will be published in Britain in May 2008. The title is Grk Smells a Rat. You can pre-order your copy from Amazon.

In the USA,
Grk and the Pelotti Gang was published in December and Grk and the Hot Dog Trail will be published in June 2008.
